Our story

My goal has always been beauty that you want to live in, the way you live. 

Beauty that creates a space. Beauty that says and does what you need.

Beauty that fulfills your desire for peace, energy, sanctuary or whatever speaks to your soul, in the language your heart understands. 

The house usually says what it really wants to be when it grows up. 

It tells you, and then if you build within those two frameworks, you’ve created home. 

I designed my first historic home in 1995. It was a bungalow built in 1912, and it had been largely neglected for 40 years or so. I was grateful for that neglect, because it left me with most of the 1912 elements on which to build. Until the mid-1950s, the house had been in the possession of one family. I learned as much as I could about that family, and aimed to design the home largely within their spirit while ensuring modern comfort and convenience. This meant a new dishwasher in the kitchen, and a working 1925 radio in the parlor. 

I’ve since done modern homes, historic homes and luxury homes. The process for each starts the same way: 

I listen to the space. Because the house tells you what it wants to be.
